PYRAMID ANT

PYRAMID ANT

The Pyramid Ant is a native species to Florida and is
common throughout the southern United States.
They receive their name from the distinctive pyramid like elevation on
the back of their thorax. There are two types of Pyramid Ants.  The common type of Pyramid Ant varies in color
from uniformly dark brown to brown with a reddish tint, with the abdomen
usually dark.  Recently a second type of
Pyramid Ant is identified by being pale yellowish to light. The pale Pyramid
Ant has a single queen nest but the darker Pyramid Ant has multiple queen nests
which are commonly found outside in dry sunny areas such as the lawn, pastures,
sandy ground, gardens, and flower bed.

The Pyramid Ant is particularly fond of honeydew and will
tend honeydew-producing insects such as aphids.
They also feed on live and dead insects and sweets.

Collier Pest Control successfully controls these ants
with a variety of specialty baits and outdoor perimeter treatments.
