WHITE FLY PEST CONTROL BONITA SPRINGS NAPLES FORT MYERS FLORIDA

Rugose Spiraling Whitefly

The Rugose Spiraling Whitefly originated in Central America.  This is not the same whitefly that is currently causing defoliation and branch dieback of ficus in South Florida.  These whiteflies are small winged insects.  They typically feed on the underside of leaves with their needle-like mouthparts.  Whiteflies can seriously injure host plants by sucking nutrients from the plant causing wilting, yellowing, stunting, leaf drop, or even death.

The Rugose Spiraling Whitefly has a very broad host range from palms to woody ornamentals and fruits.  It has been seen on gumbo limbo, black olive, copperleaf, broadleaf arrowhead, Brazilian pepper, wax myrtle, live oak, mango, and several palms.

The adults congregate on the undersides of the leaves to feed and reproduce.  The female lays here eggs in a spiral pattern on the leaves and also deposits a white, waxy substance on the eggs.  The crawler stage hatches from the eggs and crawls around before it starts to feed with its "needle-like" mouthparts.  This stage is very small and difficult to see.

The most noticeable symptoms of an infestation of this whitefly is the abundance of white, waxy material covering the leaves and also excessive sooty mold.  The actual effect of an infestation of Rugose Spiraling Whitefly on the health of a plant is unknown; however, whiteflies in general can cause plant decline, defoliation and branch dieback.

Monitor plants for early signs of an infestation.  Small potted plants can be washed off with water.  Larger plants can be controlled with horticultural oil or insecticidal soap.  Large infestations on large plants will most likely need an insecticide spraying of the foliage in order to control these whiteflies.  A systemic insecticide can be applied directly to the infested plant or the soil.

If you suspect a problem with the Rugose Spiraling Whitefly or any other insect call our office, 239-455-4300, for a complete explanation on any of our services, or look us up on our web site at collierpestcontrol.com Remember Florida does not have to be shared with insects.

ANTS PHARAOH ANTS PEST CONTROL EXTERMINATOR BONITA SPRINGS NAPLES FORT MYERS FLORIDA

Pharaoh Ants

If you have found out, you have Pharaoh Ants. This will give you a start on what to do about them.

The first thing you need to know is Pharaoh ants have multiple queen colonies. Each colony can have as many as one hundred queens or more and up to one million workers, and there may be more than one colony around your home. This is the reason homeowners are unsuccessful in ridding their homes of these ants. Each time killing bait or chemical spray is used on trailing ants the problem is made worse. The queens that remain in the nest produce more eggs to rebuild the nest bigger than before to ensure proper care of the colony.

Pharaoh ants enter your home or building by hitch hiking a ride in a box, furniture, grocery bag, or by walking in from next door. It usually takes three to four months to begin seeing worker ants foraging for food on your counters, and by this time the colony is becoming well established. Pharaoh ants will feed on a variety of food sources. These ants need protein, carbohydrates, and fat in their diet and can be seen eating anything from soap to cosmetics, chemicals, dead insects, and food crumbs we leave behind.

The only effective method of controlling Pharaoh ants is using sterilizing bait followed up by killing bait. Traditional chemical or baiting methods will not eliminate Pharaoh ants. NONE!

Collier Pest Control, Southwest Florida's Pest Authority, has developed a five week baiting program proven successful over many years to eliminate your home, or building of Pharaoh ants. This program utilizes sterilizing bait that halts egg production and stops larva from becoming adult worker ants. We then apply an appropriate killing bait to eliminate the thousands of worker ants in each colony. Finally, Collier Pest Control protects your home with our proven general household treatment method called "THE PRESCRIPTION TREATMENT SYSTEM".

Don't suffer another day with these ants. If you live in Naples, Fort Myers, or anywhere in Southwest Florida call 239-455-4300 Collier Pest Control for a full explanation on Pharaoh Ants or any of our services, or look us up on our web site at collierpestcontrol.com. Remember Florida home doesn't have to be shared with insects!

MIDGES PEST CONTROL EXTERMINATOR BONITA SPRINGS NAPLES FORT MYERS FLORIDA

MIDGES

The Florida Midge emerge from lakes in astronomical numbers, covering walls of homes, and forming heaps of wispy corpses under outdoor lights.  They are sometimes called blind mosquitoes because when their multitudes are disturbed in their resting places on lake shore sedges, they rise up with a mosquito-like whine and fly clumsily away among the vegetation, as to recognize a good meal when it walks into their back yard.  Actually, Midges do not feed during their short life of a day or two.  Since they do not feed they do not bite as adult mosquitoes.

This is time enough for myriads of them to vanish down the gullets of swallows, dragonflies, and fish.

The larva of the Midge lives in the mud of lakes and low water areas where each constructs a small open-ended tube. Through which they draw a little stream of water from which they remove algae and microscopic debris.  They act as the filter for our lakes and low water areas.  90% of all Midge activity takes place just before sundown.

Control of the Midge is limited to reducing the lights around lakes and low water areas, stocking bodies of water with carp and goldfish, adding insect growth regulators to bodies of water, and light traps around the same bodies of water.

Collier Pest Control is also limited to controlling the source points of the Midge, but we have had very good success in controlling Midges at homes around Southwest Florida.  We can treat your home with a special material in all areas that Midges would rest such as, front foyers, eaves, soffits, windows, doors, lanai areas, pool cages, and the garage.  When Midges rest on areas where we have treated they will be controlled within a few minutes.  It is very effective!

BIRD MITES PEST CONTROL EXTERMINATORS BONITA SPRINGS NAPLES FORT MYERS FLORIDA

BIRD MITES

Only relatively few species are on humans or other animals, such as rodents and birds, especially found around nest sites, while others are damaging pest of plants or decaying animal or plant matter.

Mites are not an insect, they have no antennae, they do have 8 legs, and their head and thorax are fused into a single region called the cephalothorax.  Most mites are so small they are barely visible to the naked eye.

In the case of Bird Mites, they are usually found where a nest has been abandoned, so the mites are leaving the nest in search of another host.  The first thing that needs to be done in controlling bird mites is to remove any and all nests from the area.

Collier Pest Control, Southwest Florida's Pest Authority, can eliminate and control any unwanted mite problem.  If you live in Naples, Fort Myers, or anywhere in Southwest Florida, call, 239-455-4300, for a complete explanation on any of our services.  Remember Florida does not have to be shared with pests.

SCORPIONS PEST CONTROL EXTERMINATORS BONITA SPRINGS NAPLES FORT MYERS FLORIDA

SCORPIONS

Collier Pest Control is your Southwest Florida Pest Authority, including Scorpions.  Here in Southwest Florida we mostly see the Common Striped Scorpion.  It has 2 broad dark bands extending the length of the back on a yellowish brown body.  They usually grow to 1 1/2 inches and normally live outdoors and only invade homes foraging for food.  They can live 3 to 5 years.

Scorpions are flattened, crab like animals having 10 legs and a fleshy tail.  They have an upturned up stinger at the end of their tail.  There are over 1200 species of scorpions, but only 20 to 30 types are in the United States.  They are unique as they do not lay eggs and their young are born alive.  After they are born, the mother will carry them until their first molt.  Scorpions are most active at night hiding under boards, bark, rubbish, buildings of the ground, debris, under foliage growth, and palm fronds.

Scorpion's sting!  But, only sting when provoked or disturbed.  The sting of the Common Striped Scorpion is painful but not dangerous to our health except for those persons who exhibit allergic reactions to insect stings.  Normally, strong ammonia will help the pain and icing the sting will keep the swelling down. There have been no deaths from Scorpion stings in Florida.

Scorpions have poor eye sight and being nocturnal and predaceous, they feed on insects, spiders, or small animal wildlife.  They do not stalk their prey, but wait to grab it alive with their pinchers.

Collier Pest Controls can help eliminate any Scorpion problem around your home with our "Collier Complete" pest control service.  We will treat all the cracks and crevices inside your home and broadcast spray the soffits, eaves, mulch beds, flower beds, entry ways, and a 5 to 10 perimeter around your home.   If you remove all areas Scorpions will hide listed above, around your home your will be protected from these silent invaders.

TICKS BROWN DOG TICKS PEST CONTROL EXTERMINATOR BONITA SPRINGS NAPLES FORT MYERS FLORIDA

TICK SERVICE

Collier Pest Control is Southwest Florida's Pest Control Authority.  We are specialist's in general household pest and termite control. Our approach to tick control is not just with surface sprays.  Collier Pest Control developed a complete thorough Tick Treatment that treats your complete house and every place your pet is active; all the cracks and crevices, voids, windows and door casings, furniture, baseboards, and rugs.

The Brown Dog Tick is the most common tick here in beautiful Southwest Florida.  The Brown Dog Tick does not vector any disease, such as Lyme disease or Rocky Mountain spotted fever.  Ticks are a serious problem and can cause major health problems if allowed to infest your living area.  Ticks are not an insect and are closely related to the spider.  Adult ticks have 8 legs, insects only have 6 legs.  All ticks are parasitic and feed on the blood of animals.  Most ticks spend the majority of their life on or near the ground waiting for a suitable host to come attach themselves on.  Ticks will climb onto an appropriate object, such as a tall blade of grass, bush, fence post, side of a building to wait for a host to pass by. The Brown Dog Tick can live for as long as 200 days without a blood meal.

The female Brown Dog Tick can lay a mass of 1000 to 3000 eggs. These eggs will hatch in 19 to 60 days into a 6 legged, small, immature seed tick. Within 3 to 6 days it will molt and change into an 8 legged nymph tick.  After a blood meal from a host, this nymph will molt in 12 to 29 days into an adult tick.

If you find a tick attached to you or a family member never just pull it off the skin.  A tick is easily removed by first touching the tick with a warm butter knife or alcohol to get it to remove its head from the skin. Then grab the tick and lift it off the skin.

Don't be over whelmed with a tick infestation in your home. SPRINGTAILS PEST CONTROL EXTERMINATOR BONITA SPRINGS NAPLES FORT MYERS FLORIDA

SPRINGTAILS

Springtails are minute wingless insects that occur in large numbers in moist soil and are found in homes with very high humidity, organic debris, or mold.  Homeowners sometimes discover these insects in large numbers in swimming pools, potted plants, or in moist soil and mulch.  Springtails feed on decaying, damp vegetation causing organic material and other nutrients to return to the soil which are later used by plants.

Springtails range in length from .25 to 6 millimeter and range in color from white to yellow, gray, or blue gray.  They are unique in the fact that attached to the tip of their abdomen is a forked appendage called the tenaculum, resembling a lever.  When disturbed, this lever strikes the ground, causing the insect to spring into the air.            They are capable of springing up to about 4 inches into the air, which is where they received their name.  Because of this jumping motion they are sometimes confused with fleas.

These insects are pests due to their large numbers.  They do not bite or transmit diseases.  They can easily climb the sides of houses and are attracted to lights.  They can also be brought into homes in soil of potted plants.  Springtail populations have also been found floating in swimming pools.

Controlling Springtails can be as easy as drying out the soil and mulch around your home or misting the infested areas with a dishwashing soap in water.  Insecticides can be applied to control these pesky pests when great numbers show up.

If you live in Naples, Fort Myers, or Southwest Florida call 239-455-4300 Collier Pest Control, Southwest Florida's Pest Authority, for a full explanation on how to control Springtails or any of our services, or look us up on our web site at collierpestcontrol.com.  Remember Florida does not have to be shared with insects.

ANTS GHOST ANTS PEST CONTROL EXTERMINATORS BONITA SPRINGS NAPLES FORT MYERS FLORIDA

GHOST ANTS

The Ghost Ant has become the number one pest ant found in Southwest Florida. This ant is identified by the worker ants running erratically and rapidly on a set trail that can be traced back to the nest.  They are very tiny, about 1/32 of an inch long, and derives its name from the fact that it is very difficult to see.  The head and thorax of the Ghost Ant is dark in color and the abdomen and legs are very pale.  This forces a person to look very closely at surfaces just to see the workers moving about.  They will create trails from just a few ants to hundreds.

These trails can usually be located along building foundations and up the walls outdoors.  Ghost ants will readily trail down branches of trees and shrubs into the structure, and through cracks around eaves and soffits.  The Ghost Ant's primary habitat is outdoors.  They will nest in the soil, dead tree limbs, under stones, and in hollow cavities of plants.  Inside, the Ghost Ant will nest inside wall voids, behind base boards, and under cabinets.

Each Ghost Ant colony is moderate in size, with thousands of workers and numerous reproductive queens.  New colonies are started by "budding" where one or more reproductive queens, together with workers and brood (larvae and pupae), move away from the original colony.

The worker Ghost Ant is very fond of honeydew secreted by aphids, but will also feed upon live and dead insects.  Moisture is a limiting factor in the survival of Ghost Ants. They have a very high need for moisture.

Conditions which result in excess moisture such as poor drainage or plumbing leaks should be corrected.  If possible, a vegetation free border should be installed around the foundation.  Branches of trees and shrubs which

touch the structure should be trimmed back.  Successful control of the Ghost Ant depends upon the ability to locate

the foraging ants and  the nest sites.  The liberal use of bait in proper locations works well when combined with an exterior power spray treatment.  The Ghost Ant can often be controlled within a few days.

Don't let insect change your lifestyle in beautiful Southwest Florida.  If you live in Naples, Fort Myers, or anywhere in Southwest Florida call 239-455-4300 Collier Pest Control today for a complete explanation and free estimate on any of our services, or look us up on our web site at collierpestcontrol.com.  Remember, Florida does not have to be shared with insect

FLIES HUMPBACK FLY SEWER FLY PEST CONTROL EXTERMINATOR BONITA SPRINGS NAPLES FORT MYERS FLORIDA

HUMPBACK FLIES

ALSO KNOWN AS PHORID FLIES, FILTH FLY, SEWER FLY,

DRAIN FLY, VINEGAR FLIES

We've all seen them, those pesky gnat type flies that hover over you food or drinks in a restaurant or sports bar.  Most likely this is the pest that is bothering you.  This fly gets its name from the humpbacked profile when viewed from the side.

Adult humpback flies can be found in unsanitary places.  They can transport various disease-causing organisms to food materials.  They can even be found in human corpses in morgues, mortuaries, and mausoleums. This fly is a great concern in health-care facilities because of their unsanitary habits, and because larvae have been found in open wounds of patients.

The larvae breed in a wide variety of moist decaying organic matter which includes dung, fungi, and decaying plant material.  In offices, overwatered potted plants are often the source.  They also have been found in unusual places including a tin of boot polish, a pot of glue paint, and a bucket of animal-based glue.

The key to eliminating Humpback Flies is to find their breeding sources, all of them, and removing the organic material in drains, under refrigeration equipment, remove slabs for broken pipes under slabs and repair, residual pesticides are rarely if ever required for the control of phorid flies (humpback flies), but after breeding sources have been removed, a non residual pesticide can be used to kill the adults present.

If you're finding small flies being a nuisance in your kitchen, bath, or your restaurant you most likely have Humpback Flies (Phorid Flies). Don't be annoyed anymore; call, 239-454-4300, Collier Pest Control, Southwest Florida's Pest Authority including Naples, Fort Myers, for a complete explanation on any of our services. GRUBS IN YOUR LAWN PEST CONTROL EXTERMINATOR BONITA SPRINGS NAPLES FORT MYERS FLORIDA

 GRUBS AND YOUR LAWN

If you are developing mosaic patterns of yellowish areas in your lawn, or the armadillos are digging pits all through your lawn, or if the grass consistently wilts in an area even though adequate water is available, you may have GRUBS infesting your lawn.

When the turf is easily pulled from the soil with little evidence of roots snapping and some grubs are present, it is almost certain that grubs are responsible for the damage to your lawn.

To confirm this yourself, use a spade to cut three sides of a one foot square piece of sod about two inches deep at the edge of one of the off-color areas.  Force the spade under the sod and lay it back.  See if the roots are chewed off and sift through the soil looking for the GRUBS.

Collier Pest Control, Southwest Florida's Pest Control Authority, can bring your lawn back to life by eliminating the GRUBS from your lawn.  In just 2 visits 7 to 10 days apart and your GRUBS will be gone.  Don't let all your lawn be destroyed.  If you live in Naples, Fort Myers, or anywhere in Southwest Florida call 239-455-4300 for a complete explanation on our GRUB treatment or any of our services, or look us up on our web site at collierpestcontrol.com  Remember, Florida does not have to be shared with insects.

CENTIPEDES PEST CONTROL EXTERMINATOR BONITA SPRINGS NAPLES FORT MYERS FLORIDA

CENTIPEDES

Centipedes are very common here in Southwest Florida.  Sometimes confused with millipedes do not damage food or furnishings in your home. Centipedes are identified by having one pair of legs per body segment compared with millipedes that have two pair of legs per body segment and are usually brownish, flattened animals.  Centipedes are fast runners and grow to a length from 1 to 6 inches.  Centipedes have an appendage at the rear of their body that looks like a singer.  It is not, this appendage is designed for the Centipede to hold it's pray until it can eat it.

Centipedes have poorly developed eyes and are most active at night.  They are active predators and feed mainly on insects and spiders.  All centipedes have venom glands to immobilize their prey.  The jaws of the smaller local species cannot penetrate human skin; however the larger species may inflict painful bites.  This is how they catch their food source which is spiders, small live insects and their larva.

Centipedes live humid damp dark places such as under stones, leaf litter, logs, bark, ground cover and debris.  If they invade your home the Centipede could be found most likely in closets, bathrooms, and kitchen areas.

Centipedes usually lay 15 to 55 eggs clustered together in the soil but sometimes they are laid singly.  The eggs hatch soon after they are deposited.  The female will usually guard the newly hatched young.  Young Centipedes closely resemble the adult and require 3 years to mature.  Centipedes are rather long-lived and individuals may live up to 6 years.

The Collier Complete Treatment from Collier Pest Control, Southwest Florida's Pest Control Authority, will control invading Centipedes from you home and family.

ROACHES CUBAN COCKROACHES PEST CONTROL EXTERMINATOR BONTIA SPRINGS NAPLES FORT MYERS FLORIDA

CUBAN COCKROACH

This cockroach's common name comes from the country where it was originally collected.  It found it's way here in bunches of bananas and tobacco.  It is only found in Florida, along the Gulf Coast in Louisiana and Texas; it is widely distributed in Mexico, central America and northern South America.

This outdoor species unique green coloring is a give away to the type of cockroach it is, which only survives in tropical and subtropical area.  It is attracted to lights at night and only becomes a nuisance pest when it enters structures via open doors and where ever light shines through to the outside.

PLASTER BAG WORMS PEST CONTROL EXTERMINATOR BONITA SPRINGS FORT MYERS NAPLES FLORIDA

PLASTER BAG WORMS

The Plaster Bag Worm is similar in appearance and closely related to clothes moths.    This unique looking creature is easily seen on light colored walls.  Close examination of the house may reveal bagworms attached to the underside of chairs, bookcases, and other furniture.  They are often found along the edge of rugs, near baseboards, or on the lower edges of walls.  Bagworms are quite common in garages and underneath buildings.  This larva mainly feed on spider webs; however, they will also feed on fabrics made of natural fiber

The larva of bagworms lives in a flatten gray, watermelon seed shaped case about 1/2 inch long.  The case is constructed of silken fiber and sand particles, lint, paint fragments, and other debris attached.  The case has a slit like opening at each end, and the larva is able to move around and feed from either end.

Control of the Plaster Bagworm Larva is similar to control of clothes moths.  Good housekeeping is important, especially the removal of spider webs.  Sweep down and remove any spider webs and Plaster Bagworm casings.

Collier Pest Control can control these pests with our "Collier Complete" pest control service.  This service thoroughly treats all the cracks and crevices the inside of your home and completes the service with a broadcast spraying of the eaves, soffits, flowerbeds, entry ways, and 5 to 10 feet around your home.

LAWN DAMAGES SOD WEB WORM PEST CONTROL EXTERMINATOR BONITA SPRINGS NAPLES FORT MYERS FLORIDA

TROPICAL SOD WEB WORMS

If you are seeing small white or dingy brown moths fling out of your lawn, or your lawn has developed grayish brown damaged areas 2 or 3 foot in diameter.  It is a good chance you may have Sod Web Worms.  Often, damage is first noticed along hedges or flower beds.

This is the most common caterpillar to attacking turfgrasses.  These moths attack all grasses but prefer Bermuda and least desire bahia.  During the day, the moths rest in shrubbery next to turf areas and at dusk, fly over the turf depositing eggs.  When these eggs hatch into larva, they do their damage on the turf, rasping the surface or skeletonize the blades.   As the larva mature, injured grass has notches are chewed along the sides of the blades or is eaten back evenly.  Damaged areas of your lawn become larger and fuse together.  Sod Web Worms are usually not a problem until June here in Beautiful Southwest Florida.

Don't what and see if your problem goes away and you lose your beautiful lawn to this tropical partier.  Let Collier Pest Control, Southwest Florida's Pest Authority, treat your lawn and eliminate those unwanted worms in just 2 visits, 7 to 10 days apart your Sod Web Worms will be gone.  If you live in Naples, Fort Myers, or anywhere in Southwest Florida call 239-455-4300 for a complete explanation on our Sod Web Worm treatment or any of our services, or look us up on line at collierpestcontrol.com.  Remember, Florida does not have to be shared with insects.

TERMITES OR ANTS WHICH IS IT PEST CONTROL EXTERMINATOR BONITA SPRINGS NAPLES FORT MYERS FLORIDA

WHICH IS IT? TERMITE OR ANT

                 TERMITE                                    ANT

Identifying most ants is relatively easy.  Some reproductive winged ants also resemble reproductive winged termites.  Since ants also are often seen swarming in and out of buildings, it is important to distinguish between the two types of insects, otherwise, the appropriate control method cannot be recommended and applied.

There are 4 characteristics to positively identify reproductive winged ants from reproductive winged Termites.

1.       Ants have a very thin waist between the thorax and the abdomen, while termites are broad wasted.

2.       Termites wings are all the same size and shape, where the forewings of the ants are larger, longer and of different shape than the hind wings.

3.       The termite wings are not clear and have a milky translucent appearance with rounded tips.  Most ant wings will appear quite clear when held up to the light and are pointed on the tip.

4.       Termite antennae are straight, while ant antennae are elbowed

Once you have determined which insect you have identified, you will know how to select the type ofcontrol treatment needed to eliminate this unwanted pests.  If still in doubt about which insect you have, save the samples, and call us to help you identify your samples.

MOTH FLY SEWER FLY DRAIN FLY PEST CONTROL EXTERMINATOR BONITA SPRINGS FORT MYERS NAPLES FLORIDA

MOTH FLYS

An annoying and troublesome pest that concerns numerous homeowners is the moth fly, also commonly known as the drain fly, filter fly, or sewage fly. Moth flies are frequently found indoors on windows, sinks and walls. The source of the fly infestation is generally from sinks and floor drains, or from nearby sewage plants or waste disposal areas. Polluted waters and wet organic materials are preferred breeding areas of the fly.

The adult fly is about one-tenth inch long (about one-third the size of a housefly). It has a dark gray body and lighter colored wings. The body and wings are densely covered with long hairs which give the body a fuzzy or hairy appearance, hence the name "moth fly".

Eggs are deposited throughout the spring and summer in moist, decomposing organic materials. The gelatinous organic deposits, which accumulate in drains, provide an ideal breeding site. Eggs hatch into the maggots, which feed in this organic matter. Under favorable conditions, maggots mature in about two weeks and form a hard shell (puparium) within which the pupa forms and from which the adult fly emerges.

Control varies with the origin of the moth fly infestation. The most economical and sanitary way is to remove the organic material in which they breed. This requires cleaning sinks, drain pipes, and traps with a stiff wire brush or by steam. Several new products are now available that contain either bacteria or enzymes which breakdown the gelatinous scum in drains. They are applied as either a pour around the drain lip or injected as foam. Most pest management companies provide this as a service. To determine which drain is infested, place a jar over the outlet or tape a plastic bag over the opening of the overflow outlet. Check the container at intervals for adult flies.

POISION WHAT IS TOXIC PEST CONTROL EXTERMINATOR BONITA SPRINGS NAPLES FORT MYERS FLORIDA

WHAT IS TOXIC

Today's modern convinces include many natural and manmade products to give us a higher standard of living.  When purchasing these products, there is a personal responsibility to pick and choose the product that combines proper safety and environmental protection for the usage needed.  Most people are not aware of the level of toxicity a product has when using it.  The general public also is not aware that the government has given us a standard code of toxicity on which each product is measured.  The level of toxicity must be put on the front of the label on any non food product produced.

The level of toxicity each product measures are found on the label of the product in the form of a SIGNAL WORD.  This SIGNAL WORD indicates how potentially dangerous this product is to humans and other animals.  Knowing the product's level of toxicity can help you choose wisely and take the proper precautionary measures for handling and using the product.

The SIGNAL WORD must appear in large letters on the front panel of the label, immediately following the statement "Keep Out of the Reach of Children", which also appears on all product labels.

These are the four levels of toxicity and the SIGNAL WORDS for each level.

DANGER      This word signals that the product is highly toxic.  A taste to a teaspoonful of the undiluted product, taken by mouth, could kill an average sized (175 lb.) adult.  Any product which is highly toxic, orally, dermal or through inhalation, or which causes severe eye and skin burning will be labeled  DANGER.

WARNING    This word signals that the product is moderately toxic.  As little as a teaspoon to an ounce of the undiluted product, taken by mouth, could kill an average sized (175 lb.) adult.  Any product which is moderately toxic orally, dermal or through inhalation, or causes moderate eye and skin irritation, will be labeled WARNING.

CAUTION     This word signals that the product is slightly toxic.  An ounce to a pint of the undiluted product, taken by mouth, could kill an average sized (175 lb.) adult.  Any product which is slightly toxic orally, dermal, or through inhalation, or causes slight eye and skin irritation, will be labeled  CAUTION.

NO SIGNAL WORD            The absence of a signal word indicates that the product is almost non toxic, less than lightly toxic.  Much more than a pint of undiluted product, taken by mouth, would be needed to kill an average sized (175 lb.) adult.  This also indicates that the product has little or no toxicity to dermal or inhalation poisoning and does not have much or any eye or skin irritation.

Check your storage closets, and when you shop look at the labels for the toxic level, SIGNAL WORD, for products that meet your safety and needs.  Collier Pest Control uses the most effective materials available, in the caution level or less, when servicing your home or business.  We take your safety and our environment very seriously in choosing products that is why we offer our Enviro-Care Pest Control Service.  This service offers you complete pest control service without any open pesticide spraying.  Only natural products are placed in cracks and crevices to give you comfort and protection.

If you have concerns or questions on interpreting any product you may be using.  Call, 239-455-4300, Collier Pest Control today for a complete explanation on Signal Words or any of our service, or look us up on our web site at collierpestcontrol.com.  Don't let unwanted guests spoil your beautiful Southwest Florida lifestyle.  Remember, Florida does not have to shared with insects

MOSQUITOES PEST CONTROL EXTERMINATOR BONITA SPRINGS NAPLES FORT MYERS FLORIDA

MOSQUITOES

Collier Pest Control is your Southwest Florida Pest Control Authority including Mosquitoes.  Here in Southwest Florida, Mosquitoes are apart of our life.  Those of us who have been here for a long time remember how bad Mosquitoes can really be without proper controls.

There are 2,500 different species of Mosquitoes throughout the world, about 200 species in the United States, and 76 types in Florida breeding in salt and fresh water marshes, lakes, canals, ponds, and any place water will stand.  One of the great mysteries of nature is that only the female Mosquitoes will bite you, the male Mosquito feeds only on plant nectar and honey dew off of plants.

It wasn't until local governments created Mosquito control programs, did people enjoy vacationing in Florida.  Most of Florida was considered unbearable as little as 50 years ago.  Biting Mosquitoes were not the only reason not to be in Florida.  Diseases in epidemic proportions were present here in Florida until the early 1900's.  The Mosquito can transmit a number of diseases such as; malaria, west Nile virus, yellow fever, dengue, encephalitis, and heart worms in animals.  Most of these are still present here in Florida today, but not publicized in the news.  Mosquitoes cause more human suffering than any other organism.

Mosquitoes breed in standing water and rest most of their time on plant foliage.  They are attracted to carbon dioxide, octenol, lactic, light, heat, and an array of sounds.

Knowing the characteristics of the Mosquito gives us an advantage to control and eliminate unwanted Mosquitoes from our environment.  Collier Pest Control has three ways to combating the invasion of Mosquitoes.

First, Collier Pest Control can install Mosquito Trapping Equipment that attracts Mosquitoes and other flying insects with lactic, light, heat, and sound.  This amazing economical machine will draw and control most flying insects up to 1 acre.

Second, Collier Pest Control can eliminate resting Mosquitoes and flying insects on all your plants and foliage with our Flying Insect Foliage Treatment.  This treatment places a residual material on all your plants, bushes, and lawn that will kill most flying insects that land or rest on them for a period of up to 3 months.

Third, Collier Pest Control can stop unwanted Mosquitoes before they become adults.  Collier Pest Control can treat any small ponds, lakes, ditches, drainage areas, or any place standing water accumulates.  We can treat these areas with a growth regulator that will stop the immature Mosquitoes from developing into an adult.

There is no reason to be suffering from annoying, biting, disease caring, flying insects any longer.  Protect your family and friends from Mosquitoes that are around or near your home or business.  Choose one of these convenient methods to eliminate Mosquitoes and flying insects around your home.

SCORPIONS PEST CONTROL EXTERMINATOR BONITA SPRINGS NAPLES FORT MYERS FLORIDA

SNAKES PEST CONTROL EXTERMINATOR BONITA SPRINGS NAPLES FORT MYERS FLORIDA

SNAKES

There is an abundance of wildlife including a wide variety of retiles. Snakes, and their cousins the alligators, crocodiles, turtles and lizards, play an interesting and vital role in Florida's complex ecology. There are about 45 species of snakes living in Florida, with only 6 that are venomous, and only a few of them are home to us in Southwest Florida. So, that leaves 39 species that are non-venomous and harmless, unless you break your leg or neck trying to get away from one.

Many people have an uncontrollable fear of snakes. Whatever the reason for disfavor, all snakes are beneficial to the balance of life and the animal kingdom. They eat insects, rats, mice, worms, toads, frogs, fish and some, like the Indigos and Kingsnakes, eat other snakes including venomous ones. They all help keep the ecosystem they live in at a good balance.

Florida snakes are not aggressive and, unless they are cornered, most will flee when humans approach. If you find a snake and you do not know whether or not it is venomous, here's word of caution. Do not catch a snake and do not handle one unless you are sure it is not venomous. Occasionally, you might encounter a snake that is reluctant to leave because it is basking in the sun to get warm.

Among most snakebite victims, an unacceptably high number are bitten on the hands and arms when they are handling a snake. It is also known that after a snake has been killed, its reflexes may continue to work. Those reflexes typically cause the body to writhe slowly for awhile, but they can cause a convulsive contraction and the snake can still bite you. Do not handle a freshly killed snake.

The only acceptable treatment for venomous snake bite involves the use of antivenin. So, if you or someone you are with is bitten by a venomous snake, seek immediate medical attention at the nearest hospital or medical facility. Stay as calm as you can, remove any rings that could restrict circulation if your tissue swells; keep the bitten area of your body below the level of your heart.

Because snakes occupy a variety of habitats, it is generally impossible nor would it generally be desirable to eliminate the snake population in an area. If a snake pest is killed or removed from an area, it is likely that more snakes will eventually reoccupy the area, as long as the area remains attractive to snakes. The most effective control of snakes is to remove as much snake harborage as possible to make the area unattractive for new snakes to inhabit. Areas such as woodpiles, rock piles, scattered debris, tall grass, thick foliage, and any area a snake could hide. A good rodent control will also help to reduce the snake problems, as rodents make up much of the diet of many snakes, especially the poisonous ones.

The control of snakes is limited since there is no registered chemical or baits to kill or control snakes. There has been some limited success in trapping some types of snakes.

Collier Pest Control, Southwest Florida's Pest Authority, does offer a Snake Repellant Treatment to keep unwanted snakes from entering an area for a limited period of time. Yes, we can apply our specialized snake repellant 30 to 40 feet away from and around your home or business to repel and keep problem snakes from crossing the line of repellant material to be a pest to your family and pets.

If you live in Naples, Fort Myers, or anywhere in Southwest Florida call Collier Pest Control for a free estimate and a complete explanation on our Snake Repellant Treatment or any of our services, or look us up on our web site at collierpestcontrol.com. Don't let unwanted pests spoil your beautiful Southwest Florida lifestyle. Remember, Florida does not have to be shared with pests!

ANTS ACROBAT ANTS PEST CONTROL EXTRMINATOR BONITA SPRINGS NAPLES FORT MYERS FLORIDA

ACROBAT  ANTS

Acrobat Ants get their name from the habit of holding their abdomens above their thorax when disturbed.  There are several different species of these ants found throughout the United States.  They are not normally found inside homes, but many wander inside form time to time in search of food or when there is moisture damaged wood in a building.

The primary contributing condition involved in Acrobat Ant infestations inside or outside are dead wood and areas of high moisture.  Any water leaks which are present must be corrected.  Clogged gutters can attract Acrobat Ants.  Soffit areas that are poorly ventilated may need additional vents installed to increase ventilation.  Acrobat Ants also may be found in decayed or partially decayed wood beneath stones, in stumps, in hollow cavities, under leaf litter, around door and window frames, wall voids, woodwork, skylights, etc.  These ants sometimes use tree limbs or power lines to enter your home.  In recent years, Acrobat Ants have been found building nests in the foam insulating board, called sheathing, located behind the siding of homes.  Any construction flaw will allow this tiny, .017 inch ant long, light brown to black ant access to your home.  In fact, these ants will nest in wood already damaged by other insects.  In one case, these ants were found trailing along the sidewalk, 100 feet from a tree, to an office building.  These ants then crawled up six floors of the building and entered on each floor.  When Acrobat Ants are allowed to grow large colonies the workers are more aggressive and sting you, or animals, if disturbed.  But, when the Acrobat Ant colony is small the worker ants are timid and don't usually sting when disturbed.

Acrobat Ants feed on a wide variety of foods including live and dead insects and the sweet honeydew produce by insects such as aphids.  Inside buildings, they will feed on sweets as often as they will feed on foods containing protein.

Eliminating the Acrobat Ant takes a combination of removing the moisture hiding areas where they are nesting and treatment of traditional pest control techniques with injection spraying and baits.

EARWIG PEST CONTROL EXTERMINATOR BONTIA SPRINGS NAPLES FORT MYERS FLORIDA

EARWIGS

Collier Pest Control is your Southwest Florida Pest Authority including Earwigs.  This pest is one of the most common outdoor pests seen here in Southwest Florida.  These nocturnal dangerous looking pests do slip into your home through small construction cracks and crevices foraging for food.  Earwigs are identified by their pincer like appendage at the end of the abdomen (call forceps).  They are brownish in color, with very short wings, and about 1/2 to 1 inch long. The forceps are used to trap prey and protect themselves, but are not strong enough to hurt anyone.

Earwigs hide during the day in moist shady places under stones, logs, mulch, dead foliage and any high moisture area.  These scavengers feed on live or dead plants and insects.

The common name "Earwig" comes from an old European superstition that these insects enter the ears of sleeping people and bore into the brain.  This is entirely unfounded since earwigs are harmless to man.

Earwigs can be difficult to control.  The key to effective Earwig control is removal of any non-essential mulch and plant debris or anything that could hold moisture such as boards and stones around your home.  The purpose of this is to establish a low moisture zone around your home that is disagreeable to Earwigs. Collier Pest Control can help eliminate these creatures with our "Collier Complete" pest control service.  We will treat all the cracks and crevices inside your home and broadcast spray the eaves, soffits, mulch beds, flowerbeds, entryways, and 5 to 10 feet perimeter outside your home.

PILL & SOW BUGS

These occasional land dwelling crustacean invaders from the outside are arthropods and not insects.  They are more closely related to shrimp and crayfish than to insects. The Pill Bug are sometimes called "roly-polies" and get this common name because they roll up into a tight ball when disturbed.  Both are inactive during the day and remain hidden under objects to reduce moisture loss during the day.  They can be found around buildings in such places as under trash, boards, rocks, flower pots, piles of grass clippings, flower-bed mulches, and other decaying vegetation.

They occasionally enter buildings via door thresholds, especially homes with sliding-glass doors on the ground level.  Indoor invasion typically means that there is a large population immediately outside the building.  Indoors both will not survive for more than a couple of days unless there are high moisture conditions and a food supply present.

Pill and Sow bugs are scavenger and feed on decaying organic matter, usually plant material but occasionally animal, very similar to millipedes.  They cause not damage and are considered a nuisance pest indoors.  Outdoors they occasionally injure young plants.

The key to controlling or eliminating Pill or Sow Bugs from your environment is to reduce or eliminate the moist areas which make their survival possible.  Removal of piles of grass clippings and leaves, store boxes, lumber, firewood, and flower pots of the ground, and provide adequate ventilation in crawl spaces.  An appropriate labeled residual pesticide can be applied to the foundation and walls of buildings, perimeter flower and plant beds, unfinished basements, and crawl spaces.
