LIZARDS FLORIDA SCRUB LIZARD PEST CONTROL EXTERMINATOR NAPLES BONITA SPRINGS FORT MYERS FLORIDA

FLORIDA SCRUB LIZARD

The Florida Scrub Lizard is a small, slightly plump lizard, with a large head.  Adults are gray or gray-brown lizard with spiny scales and reach about 5 inches in total length.  A prominent characteristic of The Florida Scrub Lizards is a thick brown stripe that runs down each side of the body from the neck to the base of the tail.  Adult males have bright turquoise patches on the sides of the belly and a black throat with small turquoise patches at the base. Females generally lack the turquoise patches but sometimes have faded patches on their bellies. The Fence Lizard is closely related to The Florida Scrub Lizard which overlaps geographical areas and is easily distinguished by the lack of dark strips. The Florida Scrub Lizard is most active in the spring and lives in maintained communities with deep sands; principally sand pine scrub, but also coastal scrub and sand hills.  They prefer open areas and forest edges, where they bury in surface sand and also climbs tree trunks.
