WHICH IS IT? TERMITE OR ANT
TERMITE ANT
Identifying most ants is relatively easy. Some reproductive winged ants also resemble reproductive winged termites. Since ants also are often seen swarming in and out of buildings, it is important to distinguish between the two types of insects, otherwise, the appropriate control method cannot be recommended and applied.
There are 4 characteristics to positively identify reproductive winged ants from reproductive winged Termites.
1. Ants have a very thin waist between the thorax and the abdomen, while termites are broad wasted.
2. Termites wings are all the same size and shape, where the forewings of the ants are larger, longer and of different shape than the hind wings.
3. The termite wings are not clear and have a milky translucent appearance with rounded tips. Most ant wings will appear quite clear when held up to the light and are pointed on the tip.
4. Termite antennae are straight, while ant antennae are elbowed
