INFORMATION ABOUT THE
GERMAN COCKROACH
The most prolific cockroach is the German cockroach. This cockroach prefers to live indoors. It avoids light, hides in cracks and crevices. It will stay in the crack for about 80% of the time. It leaves the crack for a few hours each night to foliage for food and water. German Cockroaches are solitary animals but congregate in areas that meet their needs. They leave a chemical trail, like a sign, that say's this is a good place to hide. Often you will find many roaches hiding in one little crack or crevice. German Cockroaches cannot fly, and prefer to rest on wood. They live within a few feet of food and water, usually in the kitchen and bath areas.
Here in Southwest Florida there is another cockroach that resembles the German cockroach very much, it is the Asian Cockroach. The German Cockroaches wings stop at the end of the abdomen and the body is darker brown in color. Whereas, the Asian Cockroaches wings extend over the end of the abdomen and the body is light brown in color.
