WHY TERMIDOR TERMITE DEFENSE
Termites do have a place in the environment and have been an important part of the earth's ecological system for many millions of years. Termites infest dead and dying trees and speed up the natural cycle of deterioration, allowing for new growth to begin. Unfortunately, they can't distinguish between the wood in your home and the wood in a forest.
There are three key steps you can take to make sure your home doesn't become their home.
First, get a pest control professional, like us (Collier Pest Control), experienced and trained to do a thorough termite inspection to all parts of your home, attic, window frames, door frames, crown moldings, baseboards, plumbing and electrical pipes, crawl spaces, foundations, and any place wood or earth touches your home. Termites can squeeze through crack as narrow as 1/32 of an inch. So, no part of your home is safe from a termite infestation.
Second, if termites are found, have us explain how we can correct and eliminate the Termite Infestation that entered your home and keep them from returning with Termidor Liquid Termite Protection. If no termites where found, congratulations! Now is the time to protect your home with Termidor Liquid Termite Preventative Protection and keep unwanted Termites from creating costly damage to your home. In either case, at the signs of a Termite Infestation or for Termite Prevention, Termidor Liquid Termite Protection is the fastest most effective way, America's #1 Termite Defense to address the situation.
Third, to insure a Termite Free home, have Collier Pest Control provide you Free Yearly Termite Inspection to all areas of your home. This will give you added assurance and peace of mind that Termites are not creating costly unseen damage on your home.

TERMITE FACT SHEET
SUBTERRANEAN TERMITES
The control of subterranean termites is often an major expense and like any other household expense should be carefully considered. An important point to remember is that subterranean termites work slowly. There are many, many variables when considering how fast or slow a termites colony will damage a home. Size of the colony, temperature, moisture, time of year, etc all affect the speed of damage. A small colony can typically eat six inches of a 2X4 in one year. Do not rush into an agreement with a firm before you thoroughly investigate what is offered. Subterranean Termites, as the name suggests, live in the soil, in most cases. In some cases, when there is adequate moisture available within the home, they will "nest" in the home and not return to the colony located in the soil. The subterranean termite is an important part of our environment. In a natural setting, this termite recycles dead trees back into the soil. Without the termite, our forests would be littered with dead trees as wood "rot" cannot keep up. No one has been able to convince the termite that "dead" wood in your home should not be eaten. The termite sees the wood in your home as just another food source. The main portion of the colony stays in the ground and the workers, (cream colored & wingless), come into the home through "mud" tubes or cracks in the concrete as small as 1/64 of an inch. Once inside, they will eat the wood and bring it back to their nest mates in the ground.
SWARMING TERMITES
During the spring of each year, the termites produce a winged alate (Swarmer). The purpose of the swarmer is to fly up into the air, find the opposite sex, mate, and start new colonies. Both the male and the female break off their wings and look for a suitable nesting area. In the forest, this would be a dead, damp decaying tree on the forest floor. When they swarm into the home, in most cases, they cannot damage the home , or start a nest as the area is much too dry. So unless you have a wet, rotten log in your living room, the alates cannot hurt you. Our experience has shown that there are normally three swarms. The first swarm is the major one, the second swarm is often 1/10th in size, and the last swarm is normally just a few insects. Subterranean termites normally avoid light. When swarmers are created by the colony, the opposite happens. The swarmers are attracted to light when they emerge, and are often found in window sills. As they come out in large numbers, they can be an awful nuisance. Try not to spray them with common household insecticides, as these products contain oils that can stain and make a mess. The easiest way to remove these alates is to vacuum them up. They will die shortly in the dry environment of the vacuum bag. Often, these swarmers will emerge within 30-60- days AFTER A HOME HAS BEEN TREATED. This is a defensive measure by the colony. The colony is under stress from the treatment and will often respond by sending the remaining swarmers out.
HOW TO STOP TERMITES
Liquid Applications:
Liquid application requires the placement of a material that will kill or repel the termites from your home. This often requires drilling many 1/2" holes in the structure to place the material. These holes are then treated, and patched with concrete. By placing a "barrier" under your home, the termites cannot return to the colony buried in the soil or continue to cause damage. The workers that are "cut-off" on the day of application will die within 30-60 days because they have no access to moisture. This assumes that you no leaks or other sources of moisture within the home. If you have a leak in the shower, it is possible that the termites in the home will remain there and continue to cause damage. In completing a professional job. the company should then paint the holes to match the existing colors. Collier Pest Control is one of very few companies to complete this procedure. Collier Pest Control offers a limited warranty for a FULL FIVE YEARS after the initial treatment. If the termites should re-infest your home, will come back and retreat the area without charge.
Bait Applications:
Bait applications are very attractive if you do not wish to have pesticides under the floor of your home, or do not wish to have the home "drilled out". Bait applications consists of surrounding your home with "monitors", which the termites will find when they forage through the soil looking for food. When the termites appear in the monitors, a bait is placed in the same location. The termites eat the bait and bring it back to the colony to share. Further, baiting is easier on the environment and actually does kill the termites outside or under the structure. Unlike liquids, this reduces the termite "pressure" of having termites constantly foraging under and near your home looking to get back in and feed. A technician will inspect each monitor on a regular basis. (Monthly when there is active feeding by the termites, each three months when there is no active feeding) The nature of the subterranean termite baiting system will insure a technician will be on the property often enough to discover, and correct, any new infestation BEFORE a large amount of damage is done. As you may know, termite damage is expensive to repair and it makes sense to stop the termite before the damage is done.

HOME OWNER;
We are available to provide you either type of termite protection, liquid or inground baiting system. We recommend the Exterra Inground Baiting System over Liquid treatment if you are planning to keep your home more than 5 years. The Inground Baiting System eliminates termite colonies around your home and maintains an elimination of new colonies indefinitely with our every other month inspections. Liquid treatment, even Termidor, will weaken over a period of a few years, and needs to be re-treated to keep its effectiveness.
Both of these treatments do have annual renewal fees to maintain your protection guaranteed. These renewal fees are based on the lineal feet of each of your homes. We can give an exact renewal price if we perform a FREE termite home inspection. I invite you to search the web about either of these treatments. Exterra is the world's largest and most effective inground baiting system available and Termidor is recognized as the leader in liquid termite control. You also can look us up on our web site at collier pest control.com.
If you would like our Florida State Certified Termite Inspector call you about either of these services or to set up a FREE termite home inspection, call our office.
Thank you for the opportunity to offer our service to you!
