BLOW FLY PEST CONTROL NAPLES BONITA SPRINGS FORT MYERS FLORIDA

BLOW FLIES

Blow flies and flesh flies are very common flies associated with dead animals. Blow flies can be found in almost every known terrestrial habitat and they are found in association with human civilization throughout the world. Blow flies include a number of species including the common Blue Bottle Fly and the Green Bottle Fly. Adult flies are metallic blue, green, copper or black colored flies that otherwise resemble large house flies in appearance. Other blow flies include the Black Blow Fly and the Cluster Fly.

The larvae (maggots) of these flies feed on dead animal tissue and as such are beneficial in nature as decomposer of dead animal carcasses. The appearance of these flies or maggots in the house typically indicates that an animal (i.e. rodent, bird, etc.) has died within the walls or in the attic. The larvae infest the animal carcass for 5-10 days before they leave the carcass and wander in search of a dry place to pupate. Maggots have hook-like mouthparts. Adults have sponge-like mouthparts similar to those of house flies. These maggots are unsavory but harmless.

Female flies lay eggs on or near suitable habitats. Tiny maggots hatch from eggs in 6 to 48 hours. After 2 to 7 days they form a pupa (cocoon), Adult flies emerge 10 to 17 days after the formation of the pupa (cocoon). Development from egg to adult occurs in 16 to 35 days, depending on temperature and environmental conditions. The adults can live up to six weeks.

Adult blow flies are attracted to nectar, carrion, garbage, bloody or soiled hair, fur, or wool.

Sanitation via removal and proper disposal of garbage, carcasses and similar breeding media is probably the most satisfactory method of limiting blow fly populations. The only necessary control for flesh fly maggots is to vacuum or sweep them up and discard. Then check for dead animals in the walls, attic, etc.

ROACHES IN FLORIDA NAPLES BONITA SPRINGS FORT MYERS FLORIDA

FACTS ABOUT ROACHES IN FLORDIA

Collier Pest Control is your Southwest Florida Pest Control Authority, including Roaches.  Cockroaches are among the most common insects in the world.  Some species grow to be several inches long.  There are approximately 3500 species of cockroaches worldwide, about 55 species are found in the United States, and 8 species are common in Southwest Florida.

The German cockroach is most commonly encountered in much of the U.S. and in Southwest Florida.  Only a few of the cockroaches in the U.S. routinely enter our dwellings. The most common of these are the German, American, Brown Banded, and the Australian Roaches.  All of these species are found in Southwest Florida.

Most cockroaches live outdoors and are tropical or sub-tropical in origin. The two most common ways that roaches enter our dwellings are carried in on food containers or other parcels, or through construction cracks of windows, doors, walls, and roofs.

Cockroaches need the same things people need to live, food, moisture, and shelter.  Cockroaches can go several weeks without food. Even a small amount of spilled food can sustain a roach for a long period.

In the south, and here in Southwest Florida, the American Cockroach (the famous Florida Palmetto Bug) and other larger species (Australian and Florida woods roaches) are commonly found in the landscape. Movement to indoors often increases during periods of cold, extreme hot and dry weather, or excessive rainfall.  These large cockroaches can readily move inside during nighttime foraging.

Our “Collier Complete” pest control service will control all of Southwest Florida’s cockroach species. Highly trained service technicians will thoroughly treat all the cracks and crevices inside of your home with long lasting baits and materials.  We complete our service with a thorough broadcast treatment of the outside perimeter of your home including the eaves, soffits, entryways, mulch beds, flowerbeds, and 5 to 10 feet around the house.

RODENT PROOFING YOUR HOME NAPLES BONITA SPRINGS FORT MYERS FLORIDA

RODENT PROOFING YOUR HOME

Worldwide, rats and mice spread over 35 diseases. These diseases can be spread to humans directly, through handling of rodents, through contact with rodent feces, urine, or saliva, or through rodent bites. Diseases carried by rodents can also be spread to humans indirectly, through ticks, mites or fleas that have fed on an infected rodent. The primary strategy for preventing human exposure to rodent diseases is effective rodent control in and around the home. This is achieved by eliminating any food sources, sealing even the smallest entries into homes, and successfully trapping rodents inside and baiting outside around the home.

The first step is to inspect for rodent entry areas inside and outside the home.  Collier Pest Control offers free rodent proofing inspections for your home or business.  We look for gaps or holes inside and out that are ¼” or larger.  We inspect behind kitchen cabinets, refrigerators and stoves, around the fireplace, around the pipes under sinks and washing machines, around the pipes going to hot water heaters and furnaces, around floor vents and dryer vents, inside the attic, under crawl space, in the roof among the rafters, gables, and eaves, around windows, attic vents and crawl space vents, and around holes for electrical, plumbing, cable, and gas lines.  We also inspect areas of concern outside the home including trees and hedges near home, shingles, roof ventilators and vent screens to be sure they are secure and undamaged, and chimneys.

Once Collier Pest Control completes a thorough rodent proofing inspection, we can offer you suggestions and answers on what we can do for you to rodent proof your home from invading rodents.  We can explain to you how we will repair the entry areas of your home and the methods we will use to rid you of any active rodent activity inside your home at the present.  This all begins with our free rodent proofing inspection.

If you live in Naples, Bonita Springs, Fort Myers, or anywhere in Southwest Florida call 239-455-4300, Collier Pest Control for a full explanation on our rodent control program or look us up on our website at collierpestcontrol.com.  Remember Florida does not have to be shared with pests!

FIG WHITE FLIES

DON’T LET FICUS FLIES DAMAGE YOUR HEDGES OR TREES

If you see your Ficus Trees or Hedge suddenly losing its leaves or turning brown and tiny white, gnat-like, adult whiteflies fly from the foliage.  DON’T WAIT contact us quickly!  You may have the Fig White Fly attacking your Ficus.  They can defoliate your trees and hedges very quickly.  Although your ficus tree or hedge may appear to be dying after losing a lot of leaves, it may not be a goner.  If the twigs are still flexible, it may refoliate in a few weeks.  Very Important:  if you find an infestation do not pt pruning clippers in the yard waste, trash pick-up.  Don’t spread the flies to other areas of our neighborhood.  Keep the clippings in a garbage bag or in compose piles to kill the flies.

These Fig White Flies are hard to see compared to other species of whiteflies.  The body of the adult Fig Whitefly is yellow in color and the wings are white with a faint grey band towards the middle of the wing and a grey longitudinal bar on the inside of the back edge of each  of the front wings.

Ficus hedges and trees are not native to South Florida and these Fig White Flies are quickly spreading northward from Homestead since 2007.  Fortunately, these flies can be controlled.  First, you have to determine if you already have Fig Whitefly.  If not, keep monitoring your trees and hedges for early signs of an infestation, such as; leaves falling off or small gnat-like flies emerging from the foliage.

CARPENTER ANT PEST CONTROL NAPLES BONITA SPRINGS FORT MYERS FLORIDA

FLORIDA CARPENTER ANT

FED UP!  Tired of seeing Carpenter Ants in your home?  Sick of spraying those awful smelling insecticides? Trying to kill off what seems to be a never ending army of silent invaders?

NO PROBLEM! Collier Pest Control, Southwest Florida’s Pest Authority, has a  highly developed method of Carpenter Ant Control that can rid you of your nightly aggravations.  As the population of Florida continues to grow and building development extends into previously undisturbed land, ant and insect sightings in homes are on the rise.

The Florida Carpenter Ant is a large ant, up to ½ inch long, with its head and thorax brown, and abdomen black.  The reputation of this ant being a house wrecker is all fable.  The Florida Carpenter Ant does not eat wood, as termites do.  They will, however, excavate galleries in previously damaged wood from moisture, termites, or dry rot.  The Florida Carpenter Ant feeds on honeydew produced from aphids, other insects, and household scraps.

The Florida Carpenter Ant nests in the ground beneath root systems, rotting logs, tree stumps, mulch beds, tree cavities or any moisture area.  These ants foliage indoors for water, food, or to form a satellite colony. This satellite colony is a secondary colony to support the main colony.

Collier Pest Control will control these swiftly moving nocturnal pests by eliminating the satellite colonies in your home, killing other colonies around your home and applying carpenter ant repealing materials to keep all unwanted guests from returning to your home.

If you live in Naples, Fort Myers, or Southwest Florida call 239-455-4300 Collier Pest Control today for an estimate and a complete explanation on how this new method of Carpenter Ant treatment will work for you, or look us up on our web site at collierpestcontrol.com..  Don’t let unwanted guests spoil your beautiful Southwest Florida lifestyle.  Remember, Florida does not have to be shared with insects!
